pramen Labe 1.jpgSpring of the river Elbethe Elbe, the mightiest river of Bohemia, springs at an elevation of 1 386, in peat bog of the Labská meadow. The river is 1 122km long, 364,4 km on the territory of the Czech Republic. Near Labska bouda the Elbe plunges down the 40m high waterfall to Labsky dul, then continues to Divci lavky through a deep valley of Spindlerův Mlýn and further to the Giant mountains foothills.

 

žalý letní 1.jpgView tower Zaly – it is the only stone view tower in Krkonose. Jan Harrach had the view tower built in 1892. There is a beautiful view not only of Krkonose but also of its surroundings. It is a pleasant trip to the view tower (from the square in Vrchlabi cca 5 km) which stands on the highest hill in that area – Zaly (1018 m n.m.). The shorter version is to take a chairlift from Herlikovice. Open: 10 – 16 ( in favorable weather ). Černá hora 3.jpgCerna hora (Black hill) Janske Lazne terrains for downhill skiing. There are 2 cable cars and 13 different types of tows and lengths. The ski-resort has a new cable car for 8 people. It is only cable car of that sort in the Czech Republic. The ski-slopes are among the longest ones in Bohemia, stretching up to 3km. There are about 50km long tracks, for cross-country skiers, which are regularly maintained by machines. Sledgers can try out the 3,5km-long „Cernohorska sledge run“; http://cerna-hora.cz

Krkonose museum in Vrchlabi – offers a permanent exhibition which includes everything concerning Krkonose. Ranges from historical collections, art, and archeology to botany and zoology. There are also many temporary exhibitions. Open all year round: Tue – Sun 8- 17. Fee: 40 and 20 CZK.

  

 

 

 

 

muzeum Jilemnice.jpgMuseum in Jilemnice – focuses mainly on the historical evolution of western Krkonose from the beginning of the big colonization in 13th century up till now. Part of the exhibition is a collection of the origin of czech skiing ( from 1914 ) and also a unique mobile Nativity scene with sound. Open: Tue – Sun 8 – 16. Fee: 40 and 20 CZK.

ZOO Dvur Kralove nad Labem – is one of the largest and most beautiful ZOOs in Central Europe. It gives shelter to approximately 300 species of animals—out of the total of 2300 species now known to scientists. You can also visit a safari in the main season (July, August). Prachovské skály -  this sandstone rock formation on the southern rim of Cesky raj surrounded by woods is located 7 km from Jicin to north-west. Though the territory is not large, it is full of rock formations and pre-historic findings suitable both for hikers and climbers. The Prachovske skaly rocks are a state natural reservation protected since 1933.

 

  

 

Trosky 3.jpgTrosky -  a dominant feature of Cesky raj are the remains of the Vartemberk castle towers. The castle was built in the 14th century on whinstone rocks (smaller is Baba, higher Panna). Observation point can be visited under the Panna tower.

 

 

  

 

 

muzeum Háje nad Jizerou.jpgMuseum in Haje nad Jizerou – is a unique private museum in Loukov, near Jilemnice, with over 2500 exhibits – historical cars, motorcycles, antique radios, cameras and above all a submarine with Czech patent. Open daily from May to October: 10 – 17.

 

 

 

 

Bozkov.jpgBozkov karsts dolomite caves near Semily – some of the few accessible and the biggest dolomite caves in Bohemia. These are remarkable mainly because they contain the largest underground lake. Open: Tue – Sun: April – June, September, October: 8 – 16, July + August: 7 – 19.

Healing springs in Janske Lazne – this quiet town in the foothills of Cerna Hora has remarkable reputation for successful treatments of patients who underwent  polio. There are about 30 springs with radioactive, mineral and thermal water.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Adršpach 3.jpgAdrspassko-teplicke rocks – Picturesque sandstone rocks are spread in an area of 20 km 500m above sea level. From impermeable bedrock consisting of arenaceous marl rise up huge rocks which used to make a single sandstone block a long time ago. The rock was gradually affected by water, sun, cold and wind and was eventually divided into many towers (reaching up to 100m ), pillars, chimneys, terraces, gorges, canyons with steep cliffs, caves, etc. Human fantasy gave them romantic names. Terrain is suitable for hiking and cycling on many routes.
